James Tiberius Kirk Portrait

We might be a bit late for his birthday (for those of you that forgot too, he turned 80 on March 22nd), but here’s a tattoo of William Shatner as James T Kirk. The tattoo is on Jon, who loves the original serious and especially Shatner. Tattoo was done by Fisch at Fortune Cookie Tattoo in Denver.

Chrono’s Chrono Trigger Tattoo

A lot of us geeks have an online moniker or pseudonym of some sort. Kellen’s has been “Chrono” for the past 10 years, and he’s always wanted some sort of Chrono Trigger tattoo. About four months ago he went and got the “C” from the title screen tattoo on his forearm.

Tattooed by Brent Humphreys, who works out of Triple 7 Studio.

Tesla Coil Schematic

Rolf is a man of few words:

I got a Tesla coil made at http://www.aeon.se/ by Rickard/Rex.

Tesla is a big part of our modern history but still he is neglected, I got this tattoo because he rocked at so many things.

I love Tesla coils. Shameless plug for some of my friends that enjoy working with Tesla coils: Omega Recoil.

Rubik’s Cube Exploding

Xavier and his wife wanted to get tattoos, and he knew he wanted a Rubik’s Cube tattoo since he’s always been fond of them. After hunting for the right source image and giving up, he decided to design it himself in software. He says, “I decided to my the cube explode to represent the way you need to deconstruct it (in mind) to understand how to solve it.”

USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D

Kerri sent in her Star Trek tattoo with the following explanation:

Star Trek came into my world at Christmas with the original movies boxset then one thing led to another and I became a Next Generation addict (Patrick Stewart? Yes please). I knew I wanted another tattoo, something geeky so it was obvious what must be done. I had to get the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D. I am now completely in love with it, it was well done and I keep straining my neck to look at it.

Tattoo was done at Lab Monkey.

Geek Stacking a Futurama Tattoo

So Futurama is a pretty geeky show, so that bumps up the geek quotient of Paige’s tattoo. But then she told me that she got it at Megacon in Orlando this year. Bump it up another couple of geek points. Oh and to top it off she’s a physics student. Yeah, I think this one qualifies.

Ink was done by Michael Bianco.

Egor’s Neurotransmitter Tattoos

Egor is a 23 year old embedded systems engineer but he’s had a strong interest in science, specifically biochemistry. He said he’s always wanted a tattoo, but didn’t know what off. He decided that he should get dopamine because it’s the most important neurotransmitter. But he couldn’t just do that, he wanted to mix it up a little, so he thought he’d get something that combined dopamine, serotonin, and epinephrine. However after getting dopamine and serotonin he decided he liked the “ying-yang” look of it too much so he thought he’d skip out on the epinephrine. Luckily he found out about UV tattoo ink and was able to finally add the epinephrine without messing up his dopamine and serotonin.

Guy Gets a Nintendo 3DS Augmented Reality Tattoo

All you Nintendo 3DS owners out there might feel a pang of jealousy with this tattoo. Yes, that is an AR Card that’s been tattooed on Cranberryzero’s arm. For those not familiar with the new Nintendo 3DS, it has augmented reality capabilities. Basically there’s a few physical cards that you use in cooperation with the 3DS camera and some AR enabled games. From what I hear it’s the kind of thing you have to see to really grok. Here’s a video showing it in action.

Cranberryzero bought a Nintendo 3DS last week and he says he was so excited about the AR capabilities that he ran out and got the 3DS AR tattoo this past weekend. It’s not perfect, but it works pretty well. He also thinks he can improve it with just some small tweaking:

Also, a couple things to note if you want to try this. Right now, the tattoo doesn’t always work in really bright light, like sunlight, but it works fine in dim-ish light. I think I need to go back and get an outline around it, because I think the 3DS is looking for the edge of the card and can’t find it in bright light. In the manual, it says to never obscure the white border around the card when you’re using the 3DS, something I didn’t notice til later. I thought the black border around the “?” would be an issue, but it doesn’t seem to be at all. When the 3DS recognizes it, you can clearly see the black outline, and I tested with a color printout of the card, and the issue does seem to be not seeing the edge, which is easily fixable.

Here’s a video of his AR tattoo in action:
