It’s about that time again. Here’s a round up of some of the many tattoos I’ve received from readers:
First up is Felipe’s Megaman tattoo. He eloquently explained why he got this classic video game character:
MEGAMAN ROCK!!!!!!!
Next up is Chad’s pair of mushroom tattoos. He writes:
I have a been in love with geeky/nerdy tattoos for a long time. who else but the nerd culture can take something as gritty and raw as tattoos and use that to express just how much win we have. So for your approval I submit my tattoos. I got them in Okinawa, Japan at Black Ink Tattoo by Yoshi (site doesn’t appear to work). They are simple. I have intentions to have full sleeves done with villains on onside and heroes on the other.
And last but not least is Rugrat‘s atomic elbow tattoo. He explains:
My name is Rugrat. I got my tattoo done by Fawn Baker at Studio 13 in Columbus, Ohio. Ever since I was in elementary school, I was obsessed with science. Particularly then, I was interested in magnets, atoms, and electricity. I used to draw the atomic symbol on everything I owned when I was in second grade. This tattoo kind of harkens back to that and also connects to my current obsessions (all sort of still in the realm of science). I chose to get it on my elbow because I’m also really into punk and lots of kids get stupid shit like spiderwebs or bike cogs there.
If you’ve got a geek tattoo that you think is worthy of posting on Geeky Tattoos, send it in!

A few months ago, Carly decided to delve into her childhood and watched the entire first season of Digimon over 3 days. Then she decided to get the Digimon “Crest of Knowledge” tattooed on the back of her neck. I wonder what would happen if I sat down and rewatched cartoons from my childhood. I’d probably end up with a big Thundercats logo in the center of my chest and a greater questioning of the orientation of Lion-O. (Seriously, go watch old Thundercats and tell me you aren’t wondering too)

This tattoo is probably only geeky if you’re really into music, and more specifically ambient music. The tattoo is from Brian Eno‘s album “Music for Airports”. It’s the graphical music notation for the first track on the album. The owner is Jim “htmldeity” Dlugosinski and he wanted to both have a bit of art as well as a good conversation starter. He says that he’s had a number of conversations with total strangers inquiring what the odd symbols are on his inner wrist.
Tattoo was done by Gavin Bowe of In Your Face Tattooz.
Here’s a shot of the liner notes from “Music for Airports”:
Speaking of Brian Eno, you should really go check out the Long Now Foundation, where Eno is a member of the Board of Directors and is responsible for the name. I’m slightly biased though as I’m a Charter Member.

Sadly this tattoo of Knuckles isn’t on someone’s knuckles. It’s actually on Henrique Barudi‘s right shoulder. He got it done to remember the good times in the 90s when he and his brother spent their vacations playing Sonic on the Sega Genesis. He got it done at Foz do Iguaçu (aka Iguassu Falls in Brazil) by Kleber.

Cedric Paul Mamuri, aka Prayer Police, plays the guitar and wanted a way to remember the notes for each fret. Well, like the guy in Memento learned: if you can’t remember something, get it tattooed on yourself. That’s exactly what he did on his left forearm. Reminds me of this Guitar Hero tattoo.

I bet every morning after Anthony Thomas wakes up, he quickly hits up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A before starting his day. That way if he gets hit by a bus or something it won’t matter cause he’s got 29 more lives!
Anthony, aka CrispyRaccoon, says he got this done at the Blue Horseshoe in Virginia beach because he has dedicated his life to video games, design, and gaming. It’s his first tattoo of a planned sleeve of geeky gaming tattoos.

Sean saw Tony’s Hitchhiker’s Guide tattoo and felt compelled to share his as well. It was a belated 32nd birthday present to himself as he has been a Hitchhiker’s fan for 20 years. Ink was done by Josh Woods at Black 13 in Nashville, TN.

Alex Richards, aka jellgeta, is the owner of the above ink inspired by the Nerdcore song, “The Game Master“. He writes:
I got this tattoo after hearing the song “The Game Master” by Madhatter where a line just out of nowhere says “Nintendo’s before hoes”. After that I just whipped this up on Microsoft paint. When I visited home in CA I took it to my buddy Bob’s shop and had it done. I took out the s off “Nintendo’s” because I wanted to use the Nintendo logo, but it looked really weird with it.

I’m not sure if they planned it or not, but both Kim and her fiancé, Tim, sent in photos of her self-done Ms Pac-Man tattoo in separate emails. He bought a tattoo kit and his first attempt was Pac-Man, so she gave it a shot and did a Ms Pac-Man of her own on her knee. Pretty good for a first try and glad to see it was a geeky one!
