Violet Blue’s Blogger Tattoo

My friend Violet Blue is a blogger. She’s also an author, columnist, podcaster, artist, sex educator, and more (but that’s not what she got tattooed on her ankle). She got the fanciful blogger stamp on her body from Scott Sylvia at Black Heart Tattoo back in 2006, and it’s still more than relevant today. It’s not her only ink (she also has cherry blossoms that stretch the length of her body), but it is definitely her geekiest. And on top of things she’s proud of all her tattoos, refusing to let any of them be covered up even for television appearances (NSFW).

Violet’s site (NSFW) and tech blog are always a good read.

Ivan’s Dedication to Google and Microsoft

Ivan Morrison is a guy who really loves his geek ink. He currently has three tattoos that revolve around his IT career in Montreal. He’s been in the industry for over a decade and loves it (even enough to start his own support forum: Ivan’s Support Haus). The first tech tattoo he got was the Windows XP logo back in March of 2001 just before XP was about to launch. Luckily Windows XP has stood the test of time and is still going strong, no doubt providing Ivan with plenty of tech support opportunities. And what’s a better recommendation than “Our IT guy is so good, he has Windows tattooed on his arm!”?

But last year he was itching for some new ink and didn’t want a Vista logo, so he went with the “iGoogle” logo that he saw day in and out when he loaded his web browser. But that just wasn’t enough. Since he had run out of arms, it was time to move to his chest. In August of 2008, he got the Office 2007 logo inked into his skin, complete with the “TM” in the corner. True attention to detail! He gives a tip of the hat to the Office team by saying “Thanks Office team, without you, my day would be…. just a pile of Notes!”

What’s next Ivan?

Bowser says “Happy Birthday Rick!”

I’m not able to find any info on who actually has this Bowser tattoo, where it was done, or anything other than the picture, but it’s too awesome to not post.

Blackberry Storm Tattoo

Here’s one that’s been making the rounds on the Internets lately. Crackberry.com, a site for Blackberry addicts, recently held a contest asking “What Would You Do for a BlackBerry Storm?”. The winners would all receive a free Blackberry Storm. Not surprisingly 187 people said they’d get a tattoo, but the one chosen was T.J. who said he’d get a tattoo of the actual Blackberry Storm with “Iphones suck” under it. And to top it off his tattoo was done by a die-hard Apple fan wearing an Iphone shirt.

Angela’s Beautiful Atari Tattoo

Wow, it’s not often you see a geeky tattoo turned into something as nice as this one. I love the subtlety of the Atari logo almost hidden in this piece on Angela. If you weren’t a geek growing up in the late 70s/ early 80s, you might just miss it! You can see the various stages of it being inked over on her Flickr.

OMG, Sidekick II Tattoo

Hey, you remember that phone that came out a few years back? You know the one that had the snazzy flip screen and the awesome keyboard? We loved us some Sidekick II (aka Hiptop) back in the day. And so did he.

Gateway Cow Tattoo

People are willing to do some crazy stuff for contests. But gamers and geeks are willing to take that extra step. I’m not sure if this one was worth it though. Gateway (the computer company apparently run by cows) ran a contest to see what people were willing to film themselves doing for a $5500 gaming machine. One guy was sick of being a “noob” and went out and got the Gateway logo and a cow tattooed on his ass. Needless to say he won. The video he submitted to Gateway:

Tay Zonday/Chocolate Rain Tattoo

Remember Tay Zonday? Well this guy went and got himself a permanent tribute to Tay, a portrait with the text “I move away from the mic to breathe in”.

Twitter Tattoos – Fail Whale Tattoo

@Critter went and got the infamous Fail Whale from Twitter tattooed on his leg since having the logo for Twhirl (a Twitter client) just wasn’t enough! As far as we know, he is the only one with a Twitter tattoo (let alone 2 of them!).
In addition, he’s also got Seesmic, ColdFusion, and Adobe Air tattoos to round out his leg of Web geek. How could we not make him the first post to Geeky Tattoos? Well done sir!
